Steel Detailing Estimating Manhours...
« on: April 14, 2016, 11:59:01 PM »
In the old forum three was a good thread discussing estimating hours for steel detailing. Just wondering if it is possible to resurrect that old thread, or is there access to the archive forum or anything?

Thanks.

Ps: I think requiring a CAPTCHA for every post is a bit excessive, a lot of the time the CAPTCHA image is rather illegible and is a bit inconvenient.

All the old forum was lost. Sorry I am a drafter not a programmer. Can you start the spirit of those cool threads again?

The CAPTCHA should only be there for one or two posts, once you get active you can post easier. spam is a massive issue, it has cost me hundreds of hours work in the past trying to deal with it. This forum has a lot more controls at the back end to deal with this.

Thanks for the reply Allan. Shame the old forums are lost.

I can't remember the specifics of the old estimating thread. But there was one post in particular that has some really good information. It broke down hour estimates per tonne for light, medium and heavy steelwork. I remember seeing it a while ago, and have just lately taken a greater interest in estimating. Unfortunately I did not absorb all the info the first time around.

It might have been the user WAI who posted the original. So if it were at all possible to invite them to the new forum, to share their expertise... That would be awesome.

Thanks Allan.

Ps: looks like the CAPTCHA is not required for this new post. Spam is nasty, glad to have proven my legitimacy as a human haha.

I found this link in the wayback machine:

You may be able to cut and paste the relevant sections to a new thread.

Oh awesome... that is exactly what I was looking for, thanks Allan.

Never even knew such a website existed - that will come in very handy.

Here is the excerpt I was referring to, originally posted by Garry.

Quote
0 to 30 kg/m Sections -10 hrs/ton
31 to 50 kg/m Sections - 7 hrs/ton
51 to 60 kg/m Sections - 5 hrs/ton
61 + kg/m Sections - 2 hrs/ton

And this one from WAI:

Quote
Avg. kg/m^3 ................. h/t
---------------------------------------
> 80 ........................... 4
70 - 80 ........................ 5
60 - 70 ........................ 6.25
50 - 60 ........................ 7.25
40 - 50 ........................ 8.5
30 - 40 ........................ 9.5
20 - 30 ........................ 10.75
10 - 20 ........................ 11.75
0 - 10 ......................... 13

Thanks Allan.
